Top JC running back has Rebels on top
There is still one favorite for perhaps the top running back in the Mississippi Junior College ranks.
LaGarette Blount of East Mississippi confirmed Sunday that there is still one school that holds the lead for his services.
"Right now Ole Miss is my early favorite," Blount said. "I'm taking the wait and see approach. I want to see how many other schools offer before I make a final decision."
Blount was thought to have made an early pledge to Ole Miss, something the talented runner admits almost happened.
"Yeah I was ready to commit to Ole Miss, but I took some advise from my family not to rush into anything," Blount said. "I like Ole Miss a lot. I plan on taking a trip up there with my parents sometime this month."
According to Blount he has one official offer from Ole Miss but Alabama and Louisville have verbally said they were going to but nothing official yet.
"Both Alabama and Louisville seem very close to offering," Blount said. "Alabama told me I had one, but I haven't seen anything in writing yet. I like Alabama a lot also, I love the reputation Coach Saban has."
Blount, a 6-foot-2, 235-pound runner with 4.4 forty speed, rushed for over 1,260 yards and 16 touchdowns in only seven ballgames for the Lions last fall. He earned First team All-State honors from the Mississippi Junior College Association.
Blount, who originally signed with Auburn out of high school, is excited by how recruiting is going.
"Ole Miss has really showed me a lot of attention," Blount said. "They feel that I can come in and contribute right away in a two back rotation."
One thing that Blount has been working on since his arrival at East Mississippi is his grades.
"I'm taking eight hours this summer session," Blount said. "I'm on track to graduate in December."
