Q&A: Linebacker Ben Moffitt

Rivals.com: You've had some really good linebackers over the years at USF and most people see you as the next in that line. Does that bring pressure? How do you view that challenge?

Moffitt: It is big shoes to fill and the guys before me were all great guys. (Kawika) Mitchell was a great, great inside linebacker. Stephen Nicholas just poured his heart into it and left his soul on the field. To see him do that for two years, it is definitely big, big shoes to fill. But, it is something that I want. We have a wall of guys drafted to the NFL with their pictures hung up and that is something I want for myself.

Q: Where does the leadership come from in this 2007 defense?

Moffitt: We lost a lot of leaders, but we have guys back who can lead - myself, Trae Williams and George Selvie are guys who know how to lead. Not everyone is a vocal leader. Most of our guys lead by example and lead every day in the weightroom and on the practice field.

Q: A lot of analysts are looking at your game against Auburn as a real early measuring stick for USF. What are your thoughts on that matchup?

Moffitt: Anytime you play a top team out of conference it is a game you want to win, but at the same time you want to win all your games so you can not single one game out over the next. It will be a tough, tough game - 90,000 or so people screaming - but we have to take one at a time and we can not discount (the opener against) Elon.
