Brinkley believes USC headed for big season

BIRMINGHAM - The 2007 football season could be a pivotal year in the life of Jasper Brinkley.

Another campaign like the one he had last year and Brinkley could be extremely wealthy thanks to a NFL team by this time next year.

Brinkley is considered by many experts as the top middle linebacker in the SEC this season. The statistics certainly support that.

Brinkley was the fourth leading tackler in the SEC last season with 107 stops (85 solo, 22 assists), an average of 8.2 per game, and is the second leading returning tackler.

But a potentially serious injury to Kentucky's Wesley Woodyard (122 tackles in 2006) should elevate Brinkley to the top spot on opening day.
