Arizona State's most talented position group is arguably offensive line, where the team returns essentially six veteran starters -- the five players who were with the first-team for the final five games of last season, and Zach Krula, who was a mainstay at right guard before going down with a severe ankle injury in 2005. Together, they could be the best and most talented line at the school in years.
Last season, seniors Stephen Berg and Andrew Carnahan were opening game starters at right guard and right tackle respectively, but both suffered torn knee ligaments that ended their season.
Carnahan tore the ACL in his right knee in the fourth game of the season, and the Sun Devils responded by moving Berg to right tackle, and inserting Paul Fanaika into the starting lineup at right guard. A month later, Berg was also lost for the year when he suffered a similar injury in the eighth game of the season, at Washington.
