Fall Preview: Front Seven on Defense

This is the first in our four parts of previewing the 2007 Georgia Bulldogs football team as they prepare to start fall camp this Saturday in Athens. Check back later today for a look at the offensive line, and tomorrow for breakdowns of the defensive secondary and offensive skill positions.

At the defensive end position, the Bulldogs have a variety of options, but not a lot of college experience. Senior rush end Marcus Howard and sophomore buck end Roderick Battle who were the top two backups in 2006 are now the starters. Howard is very strong for a 230 pound end and he may surprise people with his strength at his small size. Battle is more of a traditional end and he has played well in the first action of his career in 2006. Junior Jeremy Lomax, who has some playing experience at the rush end, as well, is consider more of a pass rusher than a every down player. Georgia has five true or redshirt freshmen at defensive end and one JUCO player Jarius Wynn who Head Coach Mark Richt thinks may be the x-factor at defensive end.
