Nelson hopes for big senior season
Ask someone outside of Wildcat Nation to name the top receivers in the Big 12 Conference and you probably won't hear the name of Kansas State senior Jordy Nelson. In fact, the Riley native is not ranked among the conference's top 10 wideouts by a number of publications, an anomaly that leaves many Kansas State fans scratching their heads.
You won't hear the 6-foot-3 Nelson complaining about being overlooked, however, especially if the Wildcats are winning.
"I don't worry about it too much," Nelson said when asked if he felt like he had something to prove this season. "Last year was good season, but it wasn't what I wanted out of it for many reasons. Hopefully we can stay healthy, stay consistent. I really don't about the catches and yards as long as we keep getting Ws."
Though he dismisses individual statistics as an afterthought, the numbers will certainly come for Nelson, who has led the Wildcats in both catches and receiving yards the last two seasons. Nelson averaged 14 yards a reception a year ago, and though he battled injuries for nearly the entire season, when healthy he was a consistent performer for an inconsistent but sometimes-explosive offense.
