ASI Insider Report: New developments at QB
Two positions, two sports for Richardson (By Gene Williams, Warchant.com)
It's been an eventful two weeks for D'Vontrey Richardson. Last week, the redshirt freshman quarterback first told Warchant.com that he was giving up baseball so that he could concentrate on football. On Monday, the Leesburg, Georgia native threw everybody another curveball when he lined up at wide receiver.
From how spontaneous the move was it was probably a bit of a surprise to the coaching staff.
"We were just practicing, I was watching the receivers, was thinking about it and I just asked for a white jersey," Richardson said.
Richardson proceeded to line up at wide receiver for the majority of the practice with mixed results. Although his routes were fairly sharp, he dropped a couple passes and admitted he had no idea who he was supposed to block.
After missing most of spring practice because of his duties with the FSU baseball team, Richardson showed up to practices two weeks ago admittedly well behind the other three quarterbacks. As a result, he is most likely locked into the fourth string role at quarterback for the time being. That, and the fact that he has already had a redshirt season, provided the motivation to practice at a second position.
