Wednesday Practice Report

The Crimson Tide football team continued its preparation for Saturday's season opener against Western Carolina with an afternoon practice in full pads on Wednesday.

"The two things we're really focused on this week are the identity of our team and our team continuing to make improvement," said head coach Nick Saban. "I think this game is going to be a great opportunity for our team to show us a lot about themselves in terms of where we are, what our identity is, who will compete and execute and do the things they need to do."

The Tide will practice again Thursday afternoon before holding a walk-through on Friday.

Saban lays out schedule
Saban said that under normal circumstances a game against an opponent such as Western Carolina would present an opportunity to get his players some extra rest. However, considering that this is the first opportunity for the Tide to go through a game week under Saban's new staff, the head coach thought it best to take the team through what will become its normal routine.

"We take Sunday off, then Monday go out in shells and work on the kicking game, a little seven-on-seven and a little team," Saban said. "Tuesday we work in pads and we work on regular first-and-ten, second-and-long, goal line and short yardage. Wednesday we work on red area and third down as well as review the other stuff. Thursday we do two-minute drills and two-point plays. Friday we just have a walk-through and a substitution script."
