Franks making an early impact

Dominique Franks has taken a much larger role on special teams early in the 2007 season. The talented defensive back from Tulsa Union made early waves last spring when Bobby Jack Wright continually singled him out for his play at cornerback and free safety.

Franks continues to be one of the top backups in the OU secondary but he's also getting more work as a punt returner in place of Reggie Smith. writer-at-large Luke Mildren caught up with Franks to get an update on his increased role with the Sooners.

Q: How are the punt returns going for you this year? Is it an easy transition for you from high school?
Dominique Franks:
Um, yes I think it is an easy transition. Our punt return team is full of great blockers. As long as they give me and Reggie a chance to catch the ball and they hold their blocks then, they give us a chance for a big return.

Q: Do you think that you are settling down at corner or are you moving back to safety some?
Really it just kind of depends on how it is going during the day. In case someone goes down then I have to be ready to play all four positions in our secondary.
