Sack attack: Part one

Look it up on ESPN or wherever, Indiana leads the country in sacks with 27
over the first five games. That's over five sacks per game.

"It is a great feeling but we know we have to keep on top of this and keep
trying to get better every week," says starting left side defensive end Jammie
Kirlew.

Kirlew has 4.5 sacks on the year including three big ones Saturday at Iowa.
Right side defensive end Greg Middleton leads the whole conference now with 7.5
sacks. Both are just sophomores so the Hoosier pass rush is in good hands
for the near future.

"It feels pretty good," said Middleton. "I worked pretty hard in the
offseason. Last year I was just trying to learn the playbook and all the schemes
the coaches were teaching me. Being a bigger part of the defense this year
makes me want to keep working harder."

The better pash rush is a big part of the 4-1 record Indiana has obtained
going into Saturday's home game against the Minnesota Gophers. The
Hoosiers even picked up a vote in this week's AP poll.
