CHIZIK HAS THE PLAYERS' RESPECT

One of the more obvious storylines for this week's game is the match-up against Gene Chizik, the former Longhorn defensive coordinator that left last year and is in his first season as the Iowa State head coach.

The Longhorn coaches and players have downplayed the significance of having such a familiar face on the opposing sidelines - Mack Brown indicated the team will change some of its signals but the gameplan will remain the same - and several players said after Tuesday's practice that they're excited to play against their former coach, but it will be business as usual come Saturday morning.

Linebacker Scott Derry did say that the team plans to show Chizik the proper respect, and he has an interesting idea on how that can be accomplished.

"It's kind of bittersweet going back to play coach Chizik. But I think the best way to show him how much we appreciate him is to try to go up there and give him a good whoopin," Derry said with a smile.

FORCING TURNOVERS CONTINUES TO BE A HOT TOPIC

Quick … anyone remember the last time Texas forced a turnover?

You have to go back to the second quarter of the Rice game, when Roddrick Muckelroy intercepted Chase Clement.

Since then, Texas has been unable to recover a single fumble or record a single interception.
