No doubts for Dan Buckner
For some prospects, an early commitment is simply a way to secure a spot at one program while exploring the college football landscape to see if something better comes along - a fallback, if you will. For other players, a verbal commitment might as well be a binding contract. Those players cut off contact with other coaches that try to recruit them, and they're the guys that allow college coaches to breathe easy once they've given their pledge.
The rock-solid early commitments seem to be fewer and further between in today's recruiting world, but Dan Buckner certainly fits the bill. The talented wide receiver out of Allen committed to Texas on February 11 of this year - the day he got his offer - and he has never once looked back.
In order to keep college recruiters from beating down his door, Buckner had his high school coach inform college coaches that he was off the market as soon as he committed to Texas, and the plan has worked out to perfection.
