Looking at running back
Cincinnati (Ohio) St. Xavier running back Darius Ashley made it official and committed to Louisville on Monday. Ashley had been Northwestern's top running back target for the Class of 2008, but his decision came as no surprise because he eliminated the Wildcats from contention in mid-August.
Northwestern would like to add a running back in this class because it will be losing its top three running backs by the end of the 2008 season. No. 3 tailback Brandon Roberson will depart after this season, while juniors Tyrell Sutton and Omar Conteh will be gone after one more year.
That will leave three unproven commodities from the current roster to man what has come to be the marquee position in Northwestern's spread offense - Stephen Simmons, Scott Concannon and walkon Jacob Schmidt.
