O'Neill-led Wildcats get off to good start

The second biggest event of Sunday occurred at McKale Center Sunday afternoon as the Wildcats took on Concordia University in its first exhibition game of the 2007-2008 season.

Head coach Lute Olson took a leave of absence from the program early Sunday and left the Arizona Basketball world with uncertainty. Assistant Kevin O'Neill has temporarily taken over head coaching duties, and his first opportunity resulted in a 68-50 victory for the Wildcats.

In a game where Arizona only scored 68 points, numbers do not tell the entire story. Taking shots outside the lane were a struggle point for the Wildcats as they still shot 47 percent. What worked the most was their ability to attack the rim.

Point guards Jerryd Bayless and Nic Wise often drove the lane and created attention for themselves, which allowed for the UA big men to finish, especially Jordan Hill.

Hill finished with 12 points on 6-9 shooting and started this season where he finished last year. On a few different occasions Hill punished the rim with monstrous dunks that were created by good ball movement. The sophomore also added the midrange jump shot to his repertoire as he showed the crowd his progression.
