Business as usual for McClellan, Arizona
The absence of head coach Lute Olson has continued to be a topic of interest for those who follow Arizona Basketball. However, inside the program, things have continued as expected.
Arizona's second exhibition game will take place Thursday evening against Team Georgia and senior guard Jawann McClellan says that the week without Olson has been business as usual.
"I feel normal actually and we haven't taken any days off really," says McClellan. "It's still a shock because you really don't know what's going on but we keep hearing that he's going to be back before the first game.
"But you can't put a time limit on anyone's personal matters and I know that from my own experience. We've been watching a lot more film since coach (Kevin) O'Neill has taken over and we're just take it day by day."
McClellan's reaction was like any other person's when hearing the news early Sunday morning. The fact that Olson showed no signs of anything wrong during the week threw the players off.
"It was a shock because I got the call early in the morning right before a game which was the first opportunity to showcase ourselves to the fans," McClellan said. "He was energetic throughout the week and he was working the same that he always has so it came as a surprise."
O'Neill has resumed responsibility over the program since the absence of Olson. His emergence in the program since the summer allowed for the players to get a good feel for his coaching style. That comfort level allowed for this week to not offer a drastic adjustment that many would deem necessary.
