UA looks for revenge against Virginia
After escaping with a relatively narrow win over Northern Arizona it the season opener last Saturday, the Wildcats will look to make big strides from that game as they take on a quality Virginia team today.
The Cavaliers come to Tucson with a record of 2-0 after wins over Vermont and Howard in their first two games of the season.
Virginia is led by one of the top point guards in the country in 6-foot-0, 185-pound senior Sean Singletary.
Fans will remember last year's season opener in Charlottesville between these two teams, a close game that ended with Virginia edging the Wildcats by a score of 93-90.
Singletary had 25 points and six assists in that outing and forward Mamadi Diane added another 25 points to help seal the victory.
The two are the first and second leading scorers on the team so far this season with Singletary averaging 21 points a game and the 6-foot-5, 201-pound Diane coming up with 12 per contest so far.
Singletary and Diane are also each shooting 50% from behind the arc, a combined 9 for 18, and Singletary leads the team in assists, dishing out a total of 14 dimes in the first two games.
Senior power forward Adrian Joseph, 6-foot-7, 201 pounds, is also delivering a 12-point scoring average so far this season and is the Cavaliers' leading rebounder with 5.5 rebounds per game.
True freshman Jeff Jones received the task this season of replacing last year's second-leading scorer J.R. Reynolds.
