Four-star back Saddler ready for stretch run

Monroeville (Pa.) Gateway athlete/wide receiver Cameron Saddler (5-foot-6, 170 pounds, 4.4 seconds) received a much-deserved bump in the rankings last week when he received his fourth star from Rivals.

The explosive prospect continued his impressive play in the playoffs this weekend with a 240-yard, three-touchdown effort.

"It was a great game," said Saddler. "They went for two at the end instead of kicking an extra point to go to overtime and we stopped them for the win. We stepped up when we needed to."

Following the game, Saddler canceled his visit to Michigan and eliminated the Wolverines from contention.

"I found out earlier in the week that Coach (Lloyd) Carr was stepping down. At that point, I saw no reason to take a visit there."

Saddler and his Gateway teammates travel to Heinz Field in Pittsburgh on Friday Night to face Central Catholic in the AAAA Finals. Central is ranked as the top team in the state of Pennsylvania and in the top 10 nationally.

"It is going to be a big game. We just need to keep doing the things that we do and leave it all out on the field."
