White outs UCONN adds to Pat legend

MORGANTOWN-You might have to go all the way back to that hallowed night in November of 1988 when the players lapped Mountaineer Field and then hoisted head coach Don Nehlen for another oval to match the magic of Saturday night.

BCS No. 3-ranked West Virginia hammered a Connecticut team that was playing for a Big East conference crown, 66-21, into submission before 59,701 hearty fans who seemed never to want to leave.

That night, almost 20 years ago, West Virginia toppled Syracuse 31-9 to earn a clear shot to the national championship it lost to Notre Dame, 34-21, when the star of that team went down in the first series with an injury that ended the hope.
