Not a one-school race for Appleton
Recent updates would indicate that only one program has a chance at landing Midland Community College point guard Tyrone Appleton in its 2008 basketball recruiting class. But as it turns out, the courtship of Appleton is far being just a blue and white issue.
The 6-foot-3, 190-pounder, a Gary (Ind.) native who originally signed with Virginia Tech in 2006, visited Kentucky unofficially last week. But before that, he had taken official visits to San Jose State and Iowa State. His official visit to ISU included being in attendance for the Dec. 17 Cyclone home game against Bethune-Cookman in the Las Vegas Classic. Iowa State won the game handily and the Appleton was impressed with what he saw in Ames as well as what he saw in Lexington a few nights later.
"Iowa State and Kentucky, it's just those two really," said Appleton. "I've visited San Jose State, too, but they aren't up with the others. I'm not sure when I will make my decision. The most important things for me are playing time and education. I want to major in communications and my dad is doing a lot of the research on that to compare the two schools."
