A Look Back: DeMarcus Nelson

With the Duke Blue Devils basketball season now complete, we here at Devils Illustrated have decided to take a look at the performances of each player that saw significant time on the floor during the season.

In our first installment, we'll take a look back at how senior guard and captain DeMarcus Nelson performed and what the future may hold for the Blue Devils 2007-'08 leader.


The season and career of DeMarcus Nelson ended on a sour note, as the senior had two of his worst games of the season against Belmont and West Virginia. While his struggles in those final games were well documented, his overall success at Duke over the course of his career can never be questioned. Just before practice began for Duke back in October of last year, the Blue Devils coaching staff decided to name just one player as its team captain. Once the decision to choose a lone captain was made, it became clear very early in the process that Nelson was the right man for the role.
