Morgantown mohawk to Seattle Seahawk
MORGANTOWN-From Division III to the BIG EAST to the NFL, Owen Schmitt has arrived.
The Seahawks took Schmitt in the fifth round of this weekend's draft with the 163rd overall pick; he is one of four fullbacks currently on head coach Mike Holmgren's roster, joining Dan Curran, David Curtman, and Leonard Weaver.
Weaver started last year and carried the ball 33 times for 146 yards and one touchdown. The other two did not touch the ball in 2007.
Seattle general manager Tim Ruskell said that Schmitt "can be fantastic [at fullback] and make a run at the backup position."
