Beavers win 22-3! Spring Game wrap.
This year's Spring Game format consisted of two 40 minute halves separated by a 15 minute quarter and concluded by another 15 minute period.
It should also be noted the teams were kind of lopsided (the White team featured most of the Beavers' projected starters on offense), and it showed in the final score: White team 22, Black team 3.
- The White team got off to a good start. It used 10 plays to set up a 42-yard field goal attempt for kicker Justin Kahut, which the sophomore drilled. The drive was highlighted by first-down plays by James Rodgers and Ryan McCants.
- Sophomore safety Suaesi Tuimaunei picked off Black team starter Ryan Katz in the squad's second series. Tuimaunei finished with six tackles to tie the Black team's Bryant Cornell for game-high honors. Katz, a true freshman, struggled, completing 2 of 9 passes for just six yards.
- Victor Butler was hands down the defensive player of the game. He was all over the place. During the White team's second series, he stuffed McCants in the backfield for a 5-yard loss. If that wasn't enough, he drilled quarterback Lyle Moevao during the final series of the first half. It was easily the hit of game and probably earned Butler an earful from the coaches. He finished with four tackles, including four for loss.
- After Butler's sack of Moevao, Kahut drilled a 50-yard attempt. He put to rest any worries about replacing Alexis Serna by easily making a 55-yarder on the white team's next series . Kahut finished with four field goals in the half, including the Black team's only points of the game, a 31-yard attempt.
