Frogs nab athletic DE

TCU is what you might call a trendsetter. The Frog's have never shied away from a prospect, regardless of high school classification if they thought the kid could play. This was never more evident than earlier in the 2009 recruiting season when the Frogs garnered verbal pledges from three class A football players from the same team. Fast forward to July and the Frogs have struck again.

This time, they have landed an ultra-talented DE to the mix. D.J. Yendrey (6-3, 240) from Edna High School in Edna, TX becomes the 12Th confirmed commitment for the Horned Frogs stout class of 2009. PurpleMenace.Com caught up with D.J. shortly after he gave his verbal commitment to the TCU coaching staff.

"I actually just verbally committed to TCU" said Yendrey.

Yendrey was recently in town to tour the TCU campus and it looks like the coaching staff made quite an impression. So, what was it about TCU that made Yendrey pull the trigger on a decision?

"I just loved the campus and the coaching staff was great. My parents really liked it a lot too" said Yendrey. "I talked to Coach Patterson and he was showing me his bowl rings and bowl watch, that was really cool."

Yendrey pointed out that he really liked the new facilities and all of the new construction that was going on around campus as things that caught his attention.

"The facilities were really nice and they are building a lot of other buildings around campus, it's going to be very nice" he said.

In today's recruiting world, the word commitment doesn't always mean the same thing to everyone. Prospects often times change their commitment when they feel a "better" offer is out there. I asked D.J. if he was done with the process now that he had given his pledge to the Horned Frogs.

"Well, nothings said and done until signing day. I'll have to see how my senior year goes but I'm happy with my decision to go to TCU" he said. "They are my only offer right now so I don't know how it will play out but TCU is a really good school."

Although that doesn't sound like the door is completely closed for the young defender, Yendrey seemed to genuinely enjoy his time in Ft. Worth. When asked if there was anything that he would like to pass on to the Horned Frog faithful, he had this to say.

"I just want everyone to know that I'm looking forward to bigger and better things for the program. TCU has been winning a lot lately and I'm looking forward to coming to Ft. Worth and being a part of the winning tradition. I'm not saying that I have to start as a freshman but I definitely want to come in and make an impact my freshman year. I'm really excited about joining the program."

Stay tuned to PurpleMenace.Com and we'll keep you updated on all breaking recruiting news. We'll also keep you posted on all things Yendrey until signing day to see if he indeed honors his verbal pledge to the Frogs.
