Plasencia talks about his first offer
Tampa (FL) Jesuit tight end John Plasencia was an All-County selection and he was also Honorable mention all-state as a junior. Now as his senior year approaches he holds seven scholarship offers. Plasencia spoke with CuseConfidential about the first division one program that offered him a selection.
"Syracuse was actually my first division one offer, so I was really excited. I talk with Coach [Chris] Wiesehan and I really like him. One day he called and told me my offer was in the mail. I was like awesome."
Plasencia, 6-foot-5, 245 pounds talked about why the Orange offered him.
"They said that I am a pretty versatile player. They are recruiting me as a tight end, but they like the fact that I play on defense as well. I kind of know what to expect from a defensive end. I am a solid blocker and I have the ability to get out in the flat and catch some passes."
A visit has not been taken to Syracuse, but he likes what he has heard about the Orange so far.
"From what I have researched and what Coach Wiesehan has told me it is a great school and that is something that is important to me. As far as football I think that they are really making an effort to be competitive in the Big East which is something I really like about the program."
Right now the two star prospect has no plans to make a commitment, but when he does will the fact that Syracuse offered first carry some added weight into the decision process?
"Definitely, I mean for the fact that they had faith in me to be my first division one scholarship offer and since then other schools have kind of followed and I appreciate that and I definitely hold their offer in high regard."
The Sunshine state product also has a solid relationship with his recruiting coach from Syracuse.
"During the spring I would call him every Thursday night and that was our time. He is a great guy, very personable. He just seems like a really great guy."
More offers could be on the way for Plasencia and he has an idea of who could be next. He also has his sights set on one other school that he has liked for a long time.
"I think Boston College is close to offering, South Florida, and Central Florida as well as Duke," Plasencia stated. "I have been a big Florida fan all of my life and I have been kind of talking to their coaches a little bit. If they do need a traditional tight end hopefully I could fit into their recruiting plans and even if I did get an offer from them it is not a guarantee that I would go there."
Look for a decision by the tight end/defensive end after his senior season.
