Bulldogs begin two-a-days

The Mississippi State Bulldogs began their second day in full gear this morning in the first of two practices on Friday.
The Bulldogs practiced for two and a half hours during the morning session leaving head coach Sylvester Croom pleased in all areas but one.

Croom was disappointed in his short yardage defense and said that would be one area his team would have to improve on to be successful this season.

"Good work this morning I think except for one period," Croom said. "During the 3rd-and-1 period, the defense was very poor. They've got to get a lot better at it. The offense should win most of those situations, at least our offense should. But our defense has to win a high percentage of those 3rd-and-1 and 4th-and-1. The reality is that except when the offense misexectuted, they didn't win any of them. We've got to get a heck of a lot better in short yardage situations."

Croom offered praise towards his offense, especially the passing game and quarterback [db]Wesley Carroll[/db].

"We threw the ball better this morning," Croom said. "Wes was a lot better. I thought our tempo was a lot better as far as getting in and out of the huddle. We got some speed and tempo going offensively."
