Valencia and teammates in for big test
Hightower High School ended the 2007 season on a somewhat bittersweet note. While the Hurricanes made it to the fourth round of the playoffs, the furthest in school history, a lopsided loss to North Shore left them one win shy of advancing to state.
With several starters returning in 2008, expectations at Hightower are high. With ten teams in District 23-5A, the Hurricanes will only play one non-district game. They likely couldn't have scheduled a tougher opponent than they did for this Friday - Aldine Eisenhower, a team that features several Division I commitments.
"We're not really too worried about that," Hightower safety Colton Valencia said about all of the talent that will be in the Eagles' huddle. "We're going to play our way and, if we play our way, we should come out victorious."
Eisenhower features two top receivers in four-star Texas commit Greg Timmons and three-star Oklahoma commit Jaz Reynolds. In addition, five-star Clemson safety commit Craig Loston will also play some offense. Through the recruiting process, Valencia has gotten to know the Eagle players. However, he says there has not been a lot of trash talk between the teams.
