Texas 2010 WR readies for recruiting
ROCKWALL, Texas - With colleges now officially allowed to offer scholarship to high school juniors, one player who may want to keep an eye on his mailbox is Dallas (Texas) Skyline junior wide receiver Mike Davis. At 6-foot-1, 185 pounds, Davis has the complete package that colleges are looking for.
"I run good routes, I catch the ball well, I've got speed and I make people miss," said Davis during a Thursday night scrimmage against Rockwall Heath. Over the course of that scrimmage, Davis put his money where his mouth was, getting behind the Heath secondary and outrunning the defense for a long touchdown pass.
While many prospects were attending camps this summer, Davis was working hard as well, though not on the camp circuit.
"I really didn't go to too many camps because we had practice every day," he said. "I had an opportunity to go to the TCU camp and I think that's about it."
Though he didn't hit many camps, Davis' production as a sophomore should have colleges very well versed in Davis' abilities. On the season, he picked up 469 yards receiving on 23 catches at over 20 yards per catch and four touchdowns.
"I was hoping just to make plays and just show the coaches what I could do as a sophomore because they pulled me up off JV so I just had to show them I could do it. I earned all district as a sophomore."
With many potential options in college for such a unique talent, one particular school sticks out to Davis, though it may not be one that you expect out of a Texas native.
"I like Clemson," he said. "They haven't talked to me yet but they'll come in this year. I like the offense. The offense fits me well."
While Clemson is one school Davis hopes will come calling, several programs have already expressed interest.
"Arizona likes me," he said. "Also Kansas State, Texas, Alabama and Oregon."
Along with Clemson, Davis lists Texas, Alabama and Oklahoma as some other programs that are high on his list.
