Bulldogs begin preseason practice

The Mississippi State Bulldogs will hit the hardwood for practice for the first time this afternoon.

Rick Stansbury will have plenty of new names to learn as the Bulldogs enter their first practice session. Gone are the likes of Charles Rhodes, Jamont Gordon and Ben Hansbrough, leaving plenty of slots to fill in the coming weeks.

"We're so new," Stansbury said. "Most teams you have a little bit more feel about it at this stage of the game. We've only got two guys back that have played any minutes in Jarvis (Varnado and Barry (Stewart) and that's it. For the Ravern (Johnson)'s, the Kodi (Augustus)'s and the Brian Johnson's, there just weren't a lot of minutes for them last year. It's very obvious they have to step up for us to be as good as we can be."

The MSU roster will consist of only one senior, three juniors, seven sophomores and four freshmen.

"We're young and we're inexperienced," Stansbury said. "But at the same time, I like these kids' attitudes and work ethic. I like their attention to detail and all that shows through your conditioning, class attendance and early morning workouts. We've have very few problems with anything."

But with all the fresh faces joining the team, Stansbury has no concerns when it comes to their work ethic.
