Mike Harris slated for first start

Redshirt freshman offensive tackle Mike Harris is scheduled to be making his first start when the Bruins hit the field against Cal on Saturday. UCLA's former staff thought so much of Harris that he was the only offensive lineman recruited out of the class of 2007other that USC starting center, Kristofer O'Dowd.

Harris was awarded the start due to a good week of practice. BruinBlitz.com had the opportunity to talk Harris after a recent practice.

BruinBlitz.com: Mike you are redshirt freshman and you about to get your first start, how does that make you feel?

Harris: "I feel excited. I just want to go out there and show my team and my coaches that I'm ready. I just want to do what I can to help us win and to protect Kevin Craft so he can have time to get the ball downfield to a receiver and open holes Kahlil Bell and Derrick Coleman."

BruinBlitz.com: What do you think you have done this week to show the coaches that you are ready to take this big and important step for your career here?

Harris: "I just showed them that I can give them a lot of effort during the team run and during the one-on-one pass rushes I didn't allow a sack. I locked all of our defensive ends down and by doing that I guess by showing that I won't allow any sacks.

BruinBlitz.com: When you step on that field on Saturday do you think you will have pregame jitters?

Harris: "I know will have a few jitters, being it my first game, and against Cal, at Cal, so of course I'm going to have those jitters, but I know as soon as I hit that field that it is time to go, so I am going to try and win this football game and play hard."
