Tigers vs Kansas: Breaking down the matchups

Each week, breaks down the positional matchups across the field for Saturday's game. Today, we take a look at how the Tigers and the Kansas Jayhawks look head to head.

Intangibles: Missouri has one main motivation: This is Kansas. Other than that, this game doesn't really mean a whole lot. Yes, 10 wins is better than nine and a victory has a chance to propel the Tigers into the nation's top ten for the Big 12 title game, but overall, the game isn't the Tigers' most important at Arrowhead Stadium in the next two weeks. Meanwhile, Kansas can make its season. KU has gone from 12-and-1 and Orange Bowl champions to staring at a losing season if they drop this game. Make no mistake, this game IS the Jayhawks' season. Expect an inspired effort. Can Missouri match the intensity? That may be the key to the game.

Edge: Kansas

Bottom Line: The bottom line is that Missouri is better. That doesn't always guarantee anything in this rivalry, but it's gotten the Tigers wins in the last two seasons. Talent favors Missouri while emotion and intangibles might lean toward Kansas. When that's the case, I'll err on the side of talent.

Prediction and Star of the Game: Kansas just doesn't have the horses on defense to hang with Missouri. Texas, Nebraska, Tech and Oklahoma have scored at will on the Jayhawks. Only the Longhorns were even momentarily slowed down by this Kansas defense. In his final regular season game against a team he has shredded two seasons in a row, Daniel may have the finest game of his career. Missouri will score and score a bunch. The Tigers take it 48-30. will provide full coverage from Arrowhead Stadium throughout the day on Saturday.
