Frederick getting feet wet in Madison

Travis Frederick's plan to graduate early and enroll at the University of Wisconsin in time for the spring semester finally became a reality this weekend when he moved into his dorm and became at student in Madison.

Frederick, along with Jordan Kohout, Jon Budmayr and David Gilbert became the first of the Badger's 2009 freshmen class to enroll at the UW.

Sunday night, BadgerBlitz.com caught up with Frederick, a 6-foot-5, 310-pound lineman from Walworth (Wis.) Big Foot, after his move in to discuss his early enrollment.

Could you talk about your feelings leaving home and finally moving to Madison?

Frederick: It's actually a relief. I finally have all my stuff moved out of home and into my new place. It's tough leaving home and not being able to see your parents, but it's a new experience and I'm extremely excited for it.

Has it sunk in that you're in college now? You will be taking college courses in a few days and a lot of your buddies are still in high school.

Frederick:Yeah, it definitely has. It's actually kind of weird because there is no one in Madison this week; everyone is still on Christmas break. Jordan (Kohout) and I went on a walk today and it was kind of strange that no one was on campus. However, I got a feeling that this was my new life. I feel like I've taken the next step.

You mentioned Jordan Kohout, does it help that you guys have been able to bond prior to moving in?

Frederick: Oh yeah, definitely. It helps to have a relationship before hand. It's not like were trying to get to know each other. It wasn't awkward when we moved in together which is always a good thing. We have met and spoke numerous times before.

Have you had a chance to speak with Jon Budmayr or David Gilbert?

Frederick: Yeah, Jon moved in yesterday. David actually flew in today, we spoke briefly, and he was pretty tired due to jet-leg. Jordan and I will be giving those guys a call later tonight, I'm sure we will all get together.

Is the play still to use you on the offensive line?

Frederick: As far as I know, I'll be playing on the offensive line. I'm excited to start working with Coach (Bob) Bostad. As far as I know he's an awesome coach. He likes to focus on the little things. I've always been taught that the little things win championships.

Why will this experience set you apart from the other freshmen who arrive this summer?

Frederick: Well, we will know what to expect. Jordan, Jon, David and I will already know what to expect when it comes to practice, weights and academics. When the rest of the guys come in this summer they will be shocked and will have no idea what to expect. We will be a step ahead because he will have spring ball and a semester of school under our belt.
