Woods talks TCU visit

With the graduation of NFL bound Blake Schlueter, the Frogs are relying on Jake Kirkpatrick to step up and fill the void. The question is, who fills it after him? There in lies the reason that TCU has tabbed Rockwall Heath offensive lineman, Austin Woods as their top center prospect. With the need for a dominant middle man on the offensive line, the Frogs rolled out the red carpet for the Rockwall, TX big man in hopes of making an impression. So what were Woods' thoughts of his visit?

"Well, I'll be honest with you, the facilities kind of blew me away" said Woods. "I didn't realize everything was that new and that nice. They showed me the plans for the expansion and renovation of the stadium, the new weight room, training room and locker rooms and they're really great."

With only three prospects on campus(Reggie Wilson and Caleb Lavey were the others), the Frogs had a chance to show Woods a lot of attention and he seemed to like what he saw.

"I got to spend a lot of one on one time with my position coach, coach Williamson and coach Patterson and that was really good" said Woods. "I really got a good taste of what TCU is all about."

With an impressive offer list that includes schools such as Auburn, Arkansas, Missouri, Arizona, Texas Tech and many more, how did TCU stack up to the competition?

"All the schools are really nice" said Woods. "This was my first practice to attend and you can tell that TCU is a really good team. Their practices are just very intense and they are always on the go, they never stop moving. I liked what I saw."

With depth all along the offensive line, the one weak spot, after the starting position , might be that of the center position. With that in mind, did the coaching staff let Woods know how they would like to utilize him?

"They told me that after the starter that they really don't have a back up" he said. "They told me that's one of the things are trying to find this spring and they said that they could really use me and I could come in and step in at center."

So did the Frogs give Woods something to think about and is he considering TCU?

"Oh yeah, I don't really have a favorite right now or anything like that but I'm trying to find the school that best fits me" said Woods. "I just really liked what TCU was able to show me."

While no timetable has been set for a decision, Woods says that he's just looking for the school that feels right.

"I'm just waiting until I find that school that feels right" said the Rockwall product. "Whether that's before my senior season or after my senior season, I'll just try to find the school that fits me the best and then I'll make my decision."

With the TCU staff extending invites to just three players for Saturday's practice, did the Frogs make Woods feel like he was one of their main targets?

"I definitely makes me feel good" said Woods. "It was good to see the type of recruits that they brought in too so I definitely know that TCU is trying to bring in the best prospects and it's an honor to be on that list."

After his visit to TCU, it looks like other schools have a quite a job to do in order to keep up with what the Frogs were able to show Woods on Saturday. With plans for visits to Texas Tech, Baylor and SMU this spring, Woods will be a busy man.
