Bostad making hard push in Minnesota

Although it's early in the 2010 recruiting process, it seems as though the Badger coaching staff has placed a great deal of emphasis on the state of Minnesota.

Bob Bostad, coming off is first full season as offensive line coach, continues to lead the charge in the Gopher State as he has already extended five scholarship offers to Minnesota juniors. That list includes Seantrel Henderson, Tobi Okuyemi, Beau Allen, Jimmy Gjere and Lamonte Edwards.

Sunday night, caught up with one of those prospects, Okuyemi, to discuss his recruitment and recent trip to Madison.

"The junior day at Wisconsin was great," said the 6-foot-3, 225-pound defensive end. "It was my first trip to Madison. The campus and facilities were great. It's a place where I can see myself playing in the future."

Ben Herbert, UW's new strength and conditioning coach, not only made a great impression on Okuyemi, but also a handful of other prospects this weekend.

"A lot of guys were impressed with the strength coach," Okuyemi said. "We got the chance to watch some of their winter workouts and that was really cool. Towards the end we were able to speak with him and he was really impressive."

Okuyemi, who attends Wayzata (Minn.) High School, had the chance to hang out with Minnetonka native and high school rival, Beau Allen.

"I've seen Beau at a few camps and junior days," Okuyemi said. "He's a really good guy. After the junior day concluded we actually took a campus tour together. That was pretty cool. Also, I was able to chat with Seantrel Henderson during our lunch. He's a good guy, too.

Although Okuyemi currently resides in Minnesota, he spent the majority of his life growing up in Kansas. That said, Okuyemi admits Minnesota does not hold and edge in his recruitment.

"Minnesota is even with every other school," he said. "I actually grew up in Kansas. I spent the first 14 years of my life there. Technically I don't consider Minnesota my home state because I grew up elsewhere."

As a junior, Okuyemi accumulated 53 tackles, 17 tackles for loss and nine sacks.
