Iowa the right fit for Gray

During the recruiting process, all linebacker Austin Gray was looking for was the right fit. The 6-foot-2, 212-pound Michigan native found that this spring in the Iowa Hawkeyes, who likewise have a great fit in Gray as he fills a major need at middle linebacker. We caught up with Gray's head coach, Jason Byers, to talk about his decision, what kind of player Iowa is getting, and much more.

Q: After watching Iowa's practice with Austin last weekend, how do you see him kind of fitting in on their defense now that he committed?

BYERS: I think he's exactly what they look for. I think they're looking for a tough, hard-nosed kid that has a good motor and is a great leader. Especially after meeting Pat Angerer and seeing how he runs the defense, I could see Austin being in a similar mold. Those middle linebackers are just kind of wired a little different and Austin is definitely like that. He's a tough guy, plays with a lot of emotion, and with the way the defense is run by Coach Norm Parker, I think he's exactly what they were looking for.
