Top CB talks Spartan Football

One of the top players in Michigan for the class of 2010 is defensive back Mylan Hicks of Detroit Renaissance High School. The lockdown cover-cornerback has been seeing his stock skyrocket the past few weeks and Spartanmag.ocm caught up with him and got the latest details on his recruitment.

The 5-foot-11, 185-pound Hicks has been seeing his list of scholarships blow-up the past few weeks. As is often the case, it only took one heavyweight program to extend and offer and everyone else started doing the same. Hicks was offered by Michigan State about two weeks ago and since that time school such as Michigan, Missouri, Colorado, Arizona, Vanderbilt and numerous other BCS programs have stepped up with scholarships.

Hicks was in East Lansing yesterday checking out a Spartan practice with his Renaissance teammates Chris Norman and Lawrence Thomas. Based on what SpartanMag.com has seen, Hicks is as a player that could come in and challenge for playing time right away at Michigan State. We asked him what it was about him that the Spartan staff really likes?

"Coach Dantonio said that I have great hips and that I am very athletic," Hicks said. "He also said he likes how I am real competitive, that is what he really likes about me."

The competitiveness was apparent a few weeks ago when Hicks put the "clamps" down on many of the best wide receivers in the Midwest at the Badger Sports 7-on-7 Tournament. Hicks ability to blanket wide receivers was what many were talking about at the conclusinon of the event.

Hicks obviously has some good feeling about Michigan State University. The Spartans will have fellow Renaissance stars Norman and Dana Dixon playing for them this coming fall. We asked Hicks what is it that stands out about Michigan State when it comes to his recruitment.

"The great thing about Michigan State is the coaching staff," he said. "The staff makes you feel at home. Everybody up there makes you feel like family and that is important if you want to win championships."

SpartanMag.com has long stated that Hicks was one of the prospects that we believed would be one of the top players in Michigan for the class of 2010. If there is one thing that has surprised us about his recruitment, it is the fact that it took this long for teams to figure out just how good he is.

SpartanMag.com recently rated the top twenty prospects in Michigan for the class of 2010. We placed Hicks at #10 and believe he has as good a chance as anyone in the state to climb the rankings over the coming months.

Hicks is being recruited for Michigan State by Coach Dan Enos. As with all Renaissance prospects, Hicks is a solid student and is no stranger to hard work. One of the reasons Coach Dantonio and his staff have been so proactive at Renaissance is they know the type of athlete and person the are getting form the Phoenix program.

As far as when Hicks could make a decision, that is still up in the air. He could pull the trigger this summer or he could wait until later on. No matter when he decides you can be sure that once more people see him in action they will realize that Mylan "Clamps" Hicks is a player to watch.
