Offers coming in for Dantzler

No doubt that Watts Dantzler's late father - former Georgia letterman Danny Dantzler - would be extremely proud of his talented son.

Although he just completing his sophomore year at Dalton High, Watts Dantzler is already considered one of the state's top offensive line prospects for 2011.

The 6-foot-7, 285-pounder has already received four offers, including ones from Tennessee, South Carolina, North Carolina and North Carolina State.

"I wasn't really surprised that Tennessee offered me because they've been sending me letters since last season," Dantzler told UGASports. "I was surprised with North Carolina and North Carolina State. They've never really talked to me, although they did come to school and talk to my coach."

What about Georgia, the school where his father played under former coach Vince Dooley from 1971-73?

Although the Bulldogs have yet to offer, Dantzler said that assistant coach Stacy Searels has dropped by the school on a couple of occasions. Georgia has a commitment from Dantzler's teammate at Dalton, defensive end Jalen Fields.

"Georgia hasn't offered yet, but maybe during the summer, the next couple of months," Dantzler said. "I think they will probably offer."

Dantzler grew up a Bulldog fan and can remember going with his dad to numerous Georgia contests, standing on the sideline and visiting the lockerroom after the game.

"I've gone to Georgia games all my life," he said. "When I used to go I thought Georgia had the best of everything. Georgia does have some very nice facilities, but as I've seen some other programs, they have some nice stuff, too."

Whichever school he decides, Dantzler is no doubt certain that his father would support him 100 percent.

The elder Dantzler passed away from complications due to ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) earlier this year.

"Getting offers is very exciting but I'm not letting it go to my head or get too cocky with it," Dantzler said. "I'm just taking it day by day, getting ready to work this summer and do the best I can next season. I'm just very thankful for every day that goes by."
