Three Star Quarterback Commits UW

The Cowboys received their second quarterback commitment this summer when CJ Bennett, a 6-0 and 200 pound three star prospect verballed Wyoming. Bennett is ranked the 27th pro-style signal caller by Rivals.com and top in the state of Florida.

Bennett is said to remind Head Coach Dave Christensen and his staff of former Missou quarterback Chase Daniel when he originally signed with the Tigers. He was a high recruiting priority of Christensen's during the spring and summer prospecting period.

The Alonso High School (Tampa) product wanted to feel comfortable with the school and offensive system when evaluating where he was going to play. Christensen's open offensive style was an easy selling point for Bennett who had four scholarship offers on the table and the list growing. He's also been in contact with UCONN, Kansas, Notre Dame, UCF, along with Wyoming.

Bennett has a cannon for an arm and he showed it off at the Nike Camp in Miami this spring. He also demonstrated exceptional accuracy and excellent mechanics thus winning QB MVP honors.

The knock on the 6 foot quarterback was his size though his performance at the Nike Camp opened some eyes and showed the recruiters his competiteness.

"I wasn't surprised because I felt like the ball came out of my hand really well today. I was very relaxed and adjusted pretty quickly to the different speeds of the wide receivers," said Bennett following his performance. "Obviously, it's a big confidence builder going into the season. I wanted prove that size isn't everything at quarterback. It's about making plays."

The Cowboys first commitment from a high school quarterback came from Sam Stratton from Chatfield High School in Littleton, Colorado. The Pokes have two quarterback commitments to date.
