Neuheisel and Carter meet the press - Part I

UCLA head coach Rick Neuheisel and senior linebacker Reggie Carter met with the Pac 10 media yesterday to talk about the team and they may fair in 2009. Coach Neuheisel also received one of the day's biggest laughs when he was asked a question about scheduling. The following is part one of a two-part series.

Neuheisel: "I'm very excited about the upcoming season is a very familiar refrain from all the coaches you will hear from today. The UCLA program is eager to get underway for the 2009 season. It is 18 months later from the time I got the job I think we are a more athletic team. I think we are stronger and physical, but we're still relatively inexperienced so we will have to get through that and grow up quickly via the leader of guys like Reggie (Carter), who will be one of our captains and our youngsters to play above their years if at all possible. That will be the key, but we feel like we're on the right path.

"The work ethic is exactly what you need to rise in the ranks in this very competitive conference and I believe great things are in store for our program.

"Recruiting has gone well, the culture of work and enthusiasm is where it needs to be, now we just have to go out there and execute on game day.

"It's going to be fun and exciting to be back in the saddle when camp begins and get on the way what promises to be an exciting season.

"Any opening comments, Reggie (Carter)?"

Carter: "No I think you took care of it, but like you said, we're excited and we have been working hard this summer and I think we kind of came together as a team, as far as playing together and competing against each other. We really play for each other and for Coach Neuheisel, because he works for us and we work for him. We're excited about the season and we're ready to go."
