Martin-Manley looking to make decison in next two weeks
Central Michigan has already added two talented in-state receivers in Inkster's Johnathan Taylor and Southfield Lathrup's Montrel Robinson, and now, a third could be on the way. Two star prospect Kavonte Martin-Manley has the Chippewas high on his list and could equal a talented trip of wideouts for CMU in 2010.
The 6-foot-1 and 190 pound Martin-Manley is ranked as the No. 28 prospect in the state of Michigan for 2010 and currently holds offers from Central Michigan, Bowling Green and Toldeo with Wisconsin, Illinois and Michigan State showing interest. Earlier this year, he had a chance to check out CMU as he attended a practice.
"I went up for a practice and came away really impressed," said Martin-Manley. "The coaches were good and I really like Coach Jones (Head Coach) and Coach Azzani (Wide Receivers Coach). I just liked how they ran everything, and it also seemed like they get their wide receivers involved a lot".
Also helping CMU is 2009 commitment Shamari Benton who was a teammate of Martin-Manley's at Birmingham Brother Rice last year.
"Yeah, he let me know about CMU. When he was here in school last year he was getting in my ear everyday," said a laughing Martin-Manley. "Now that he's up in Mount Pleasant, it's not as bad, but he still let's me know".
Last year Martin-Manley snagged 34 receptions for 610 yards and had a total of 11 touchdowns on the season. While those statistics are enough to draw schools interest, it's his ability off the field that really has coaches impressed.
"Coaches just like me as a person off the field. They like my character, intelligence and respectfulness. And of course they like my abilities as a receiver as well" added Martin-Manley.
Martin-Manley also took the time to unveil his top five, starting with his leader and working down.
"My top five would be Illinois, Central Michigan, Wisconsin, Bowling Green and Michigan State".
Central Michigan is sitting comfortably in the number two spot and is the highest team on the list with an offer to Martin-Manley. It appears Chippewa fans may find out if Martin-Manley is the next commitment sooner than later.
"I actually just called Coach Jones about two or three days ago and let him know I was going to make a decision in the next two weeks" said Martin-Manley.
Keep a close eye the next few weeks as Shamari Benton and the current CMU squad await Martin-Manley's decision.
