Campbell busy networking
Philadelphia (Pa.) Chestnut Hill Academy safety Ibraheim Campbell helped his team get off to a good start over the weekend and he's not even close to being finished.
In his first game, a 21-13 win over North Catholic, Campbell carried the ball 26 times for 144 yards and two touchdowns. He played the entire game on both sides of the ball and feels good about his performance. He also feels good about his team as a whole.
"We're pretty good," he said. "We have a lot of guys returning. We only lost about four seniors so I feel like we're a good young team going into the season. With all the things that happened over the summer, like with all the offers coming in, my confidence is definitely up. I'm real positive going into this season."
The 5-foot-11, 188-pound prospect from the Keystone State said he has heard coaches from Boston College will be coming by his school later this year for a game. The Eagles haven't yet offered so they'll be evaluating Campbell to see if he's worthy of a free ride.
Since September 1 he has been in touch with coaches from his four favorites -- Vanderbilt, Northwestern, Stanford and Boston College -- as well as Pitt.
While he otherwise might love to try to go to some of the best games on those school's schedules, that's not how he can do things.
"I can't really go off that just because my schedule isn't very flexible with my games being on the weekends. I'm just trying to see when my schedule will allow me to."
Perhaps the most unique thing Campbell is doing in the recruiting process is utilizing all the benefits of modern technology. Social networking sites weren't around for prospects a generation ago, but Campbell is putting them to good use in an effort to learn as much as he can.
"I'll be getting help from my family and I've been trying to use Facebook to get up with different members of the team at the schools I'm looking at. I'm trying to talk to a lot of players from those places on that."
