Top Mississippi prospect looking around

Olive Branch, Miss. offensive tackle Shon Coleman recently made a jump into the Rivals100 and as could be expected, he's become a highly recruited prospect despite an early commitment to Auburn last April.

Coleman, a 6-foot-7, 285 pound prospect, made the jump about two weeks ago from a three-star on the cusp of four-star status to one of the most highly rated offensive tackles in the country and the No. 76 player overall. He also is now rated the top prospect in Mississippi.

"I'm being recruited really hard," Coleman said on Monday evening after returning to his home from watching a junior varsity game. "I now have up offers from LSU, Tennessee, Miami and Arkansas."

Those offers are in addition to a long list of schools that offered earlier and include Ole Miss, Auburn, Alabama, Mississippi State, and Oklahoma State.

While Coleman has long been an Auburn commitment, he said he is "still looking around," but remains committed to the Tigers.

That looking around included a trip last weekend to catch two teams that have offered go head to head - Alabama and Tennessee in Tuscaloosa.

"It was really loud at Alabama," he said. "It was a good experience to go down there."

He also visited Auburn two weeks ago when Kentucky upset the Tigers, 21-14.

There had been rumors and reports that Coleman was at Ole Miss' home opener against Southeastern Louisiana in mid-September; however, he clarified that on Monday, saying he hasn't been to Oxford this fall.

Coleman said he had initially planned to go to Ole Miss to watch the Rebels and Arkansas play last Saturday, but changed his plans and opted for the Alabama trip instead.

He said he may attend the Ole Miss - Tennessee game on Nov. 14, but hasn't made a final decision yet.

Coleman visited Ole Miss for junior day in late February and was clearly one of the most physical specimens among numerous potential Division I prospects on campus that day. He had talks with head coach Houston Nutt and offensive line coach and gave the visit positive reviews.

However, he didn't have an Ole Miss offer at that time and committed to Auburn about six weeks later. Since then, not only Ole Miss, but numerous other schools have extended offers.

Coleman also said he will take several official visits after his season ends, but has yet to decide which schools he will visit or when he'll take those visits.

Coleman said he took the ACT last year and made a 17 and has a 3.3 GPA.
