Five-star Anderson picks West Virginia

MORE: Army All-American Bowl coverage

SAN ANTNONIO -- Cleveland (Ohio) Glenville athlete Latwan Anderson has had to deal with numerous rumors about his favorites throughout the recruiting process and, despite continually naming the West Virginia Mountaineers as his leader, Anderson has had to deny the assumption that he was Ohio State bound like most Glenville products. Now, after announcing his commitment on national television at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, Anderson has finally silenced the doubters.

"Ohio State (was considered) for a little bit because they're my home team but West Virginia was in my heart," Anderson said after picking up the West Virginia cap at the Army All-American Bowl.

"I was just feeling it at West Virginia," said Anderson earlier this week when talking about his interest in WVU. "More so than at Ohio State. I know Glenville sends a lot of kids to Ohio State, but I just didn't click there as much as I did down at West Virginia. I felt at home with the players and really hit it off with Noel Devine especially. They've always been my favorite and it has been hard to convince people that it's legit."

Anderson got a great feeling for the 'Neers on a visit earlier this season.

"I went to West Virginia and liked it a lot," Anderson said following a trip to Morgantown to watch the Mountaineers play Marshall during the football season. "My mom and Dad liked it a lot. It was more of a family thing there. The whole time I was there the players stuck together. The coaches seemed to have a real good relationship with the players, kind of like what we have here at Glenville."

Anderson chose the Mountaineers over Ohio State, Miami, North Carolina, Michigan State and others. He is excited about his future in the Big East.

"The coaches mentioned I could possibly play some both ways," he said. "I'll be playing safety on defense and maybe some receiver on offense. "

Anderson is ranked as the nation's No. 2 athlete and the No. 18 player overall in the country. He is the third five-star commitment to West Virginia since 2002 joining running backs Jason Gwaltney and Noel Devine.
