Power rankings: Boeheim, like team, is No. 1
Syracuse's rise to the top of the national polls produced an Orange infusion in the Rivals.com College Basketball Power Rankings.
The Orange's 95-77 victory Saturday over Villanova helped Syracuse's Jim Boeheim regain his position as the No. 1 coach in the power rankings, which measure the nation's top performers at each position. Picked before the season to finish sixth in the Big East, Syracuse already has clinched at least a share of the conference title.
Plenty of Boeheim's players joined him in the rankings.
Syracuse's Wesley Johnson maintained his position as the No. 2 small forward in the nation. Andy Rautins re-entered the shooting guard rankings, Arinze Onuaku moved back into the center rankings and Rick Jackson joined the power forward rankings for the first time.
There were no changes at the top of the player rankings.
Kentucky point guard John Wall, Oklahoma State shooting guard James Anderson, Ohio State small forward Evan Turner, Texas power forward Damion James and Georgetown center Greg Monroe remained atop their respective positions. Wall also maintained his status as the nation's No. 1 freshman.
A couple of big-name performers exited the power rankings for health reasons.
Purdue's Robbie Hummel was rated as the nation's No. 3 small forward last week, but he has fallen out of the rankings after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee Wednesday in a 59-58 victory over Minnesota. The injury will knock Hummel out for the rest of the season.
Notre Dame's Luke Harangody also has fallen out of the rankings, at least for the time being. Harangody, the nation's No. 2 power forward last week, has missed the Irish's past four games with a bone bruise in his right knee. Notre Dame coach Mike Brey has indicated Harangody might not return this season. Harangody won't return to the power rankings until he plays again.
The current rankings considered performances through Sunday's games. The rankings measure overall career performances as well as the results of the past week.
