The Bentley Report: Chris Boles

Name: Chris Boles
Position: Offensive Guard
Height: 6-foot-5
Weight: 315 pounds
High School: Toledo (Ohio) Central Catholic High School

Overview: Chris Boles has emerged as one of the top interior line prospects in the state for the class of 2011. The massive guard Boles led Central Catholic to a 8-2 regular season record last fall, advancing to the second round of the Division II playoffs where they lost to Maple Heights, 27-13.

Boles, who serves as a two-way lineman at the high school level, is projected on the offensive side of the ball in college. Thus far he has accumulated offers from a variety of MAC programs and BCS conference programs Syracuse, Cincinnati, Wisconsin and Illinois.

Strengths: Boles is an exceptional athlete that does a good job pulling. Chris is much more advanced than most linemen his age because he is able to "track" his targets while on the move. He's very physical and determined to finish his blocks. I would consider him a fluid runner that is able to move his hips with ease. He's a natural knee bender that will not have a problem playing against larger college players. I really like that he demonstrates good leg drive and snap off of the ball. Some of the small things he does naturally - such as snapping off to linebackers on double teams and allowing plays to develop before committing to his target on pulls - tells me he's a smart football player.

Areas for Improvement: As is the case with most high school offensive linemen, Boles' pass protection needs work. He must do a better job fighting for inside hand placement in the run game. At times he can play a little high which causes way too many stalemates. Chris will need to get stronger before he can compete at a high level collegiately.

Bentley's Projection: Boles is a legit big time Division I prospect. Chris has all the makings of a good college football player he just needs to find a place that works for him. A school in the Big Ten Conference that strives on physical and athletic guards would be an ideal fit.
