Fenton (Mich.) kicker stands out at kicking camp
Former Michigan kicker Brandon Kornblue was back in town a few weekends ago to hold his latest kicking camp in Ann Arbor. Kornblue, founder of the successful (and growing) Kornblue Kicking school, put several punters and kickers to the test.
The best of the best: Fenton (Mich.) class of 2012 standout Kenny Allen. The 6-3, 190-pounder was probably the second-best punter we saw during our hour in attendance, but later captured the award for best kicker.
"Kenny has solid technique and great size - he's definitely one to follow nationally in the class of 2012," Kornblue said. "He projects to be a D1 prospect as a kicker as his kickoffs improve, and as a punter as his consistency improves."
Allen earned field goal Champion honors at the Ann Arbor Fab 50 camp by nailing 10 straight field goals, including a 55-yarder off the ground inside Al Glick Fieldhouse (no wind).
The best punter we saw: Wayland (Mich.) Union's Andrew Haldeman (class of 2011). The 5-11, 160-pounder was by far the most consistent of the bunch.
"He is a solid combo punter/kicker," Kornblue reported. "His punting is more advanced, but he shows potential to do both at the D1 or 1AA level."
Four of his six punts landed in the 4.2-4.6 hang time range at the Fab 50 camp, and he averaged 40 yards per punt. He was also solid in kicking field goals off the ground.
Other notable athletes:
K Scott Stanford (Novi (Mich.) High)
K Tyler Channell (Troy (Mich.) Athens High)
K Nick Ganus (Chillicothe (Ohio) Zane Trace High)
K/P Dylan Mulder (Saline (Mich.) High)
