Trojans sign Juco OL
Jeremy Galten.USC received a commitment and the subsequent signature of San Mateo (Calif.) Junior College offensive lineman
The sophomore All-Conference guard has three years to play two for USC and will enroll Jan. 10 to be eligible for spring football.
"Lineman Jeremy Galten who just signed a full athletic scholarship to University of Southern California," San Mateo College announced Tuesday. "Jeremy will graduate from CSM early (Dec) and transfer to USC in January so he can start school on the 10th."
Galten was recruited by Clay Helton and is originally from Hillsdale High School in San Mateo. At 6-foot-4, 290-pounds, Galten is projected to play guard at USC as he did his previous two seasons at the junior college level where he started two dozen games.
"He was about 270-pounds when he came to us," said San Mateo defensive coordinator Tim Tulloch. "He was just overlooked in high school. Not many programs scout that area.
"We saw a ton of potential in him out of high school. We thought we had a gem in our own backyard, and he was. He started 23 games for us, including the national championship game last year.
"He was a full qualifier out of high school, but it wasn't until about three weeks ago he found out he could get out and graduate mid-year. Originally, we thought he'd be out in May. It was a scramble to get his paperwork in."
Galten officially visited Florida and unofficially visited San Jose State before deciding to sign with USC this week.
According to Tulloch, Galten selected USC over scholarship offers from Arizona, San Jose State, Nevada, Utah State and several other schools.
"He had a ton of offers, but USC was his dream school," said Tulloch. "The national championships, the tradition ... and he had family that went there.
"It was a no-brainer once he got the offer. He agreed he would stop the recruiting process right then.
"Coach Helton did a tremendous job recruiting him too. He made Jeremy feel like he was the perfect for for their program. He can play four of the five positions on the line, and USC liked that.
"He played guard for us, but two of the schools that offered him were going to move him to tackle."
USCFootball.com will have more on Jeremy Galten's commitment and signing later in the week.
