Robinson Out Two Weeks with Meniscus Tear

Kansas men's basketball coach Bill Self announced that sophomore forward Thomas Robinson underwent successful surgery Friday on a meniscus tear in his right knee and will be out for approximately two weeks.

"Thomas injured his knee against Missouri on Monday (Feb. 7)," Self said. "It's been bothering him since the game and we did an MRI on him this morning and found out he had a meniscus tear in his right knee. Surgery was performed today. It went well but he will be out on either side of two weeks depending on how progress goes."

A 6-9, 237-pound, Washington, D.C., native, Robinson averages 8.9 points per game in 2010-11 and his 6.4 rebounds are 15th in the Big 12. He is 20-for-25 (80.0 percent) from the field in his last four games with a 12.8 points per game average in that span. Robinson missed the Colorado contest on Jan. 25 tending to the funeral of his mother, Lisa, in Washington, D.C. He has two double-doubles in 2010-11.

"Thomas has a great attitude," Self said. "He's very disappointed, but has strong throughout this. We're disappointed for him for a lot of reasons. One is he is playing so well as of late. We would rather have him healthy and in rhythm going into the postseason than waiting and doing the surgery later on."

Self also addressed the status of freshman guard Josh Selby who has been nursing a stress reaction in his right ankle and has missed the last two Kansas contests. "Josh did practice today, limited," Self said. "I seriously doubt he will play tomorrow."
