Kansas repels Texas Tech

No. 10 Kansas (13-3; 3-0) cruised to an easy road win over Texas Tech (7-8; 0-3) in Lubbock, Tex., Wednesday night to reach 3-0 in conference play.

As quietly as a player of the year candidate can, Thomas Robinson recorded yet another double-double en route to a blowout win for Kansas on the road against one of 's former assistants, [db]Billy Gillespie.

Texas Tech was no match for Kansas, despite leading the Jayhawks for the first 10 minutes of the first half. It seemed as though Billy Clyde has Kansas figured out; slow the Jayhawks down and limit possessions. However, Kansas was led by Travis Releford and his 11 points at the half which created a 35-20 gap at the break.

Kansas has struggled in Lubbock over the past several years, going just 1-3 under Self while at Kansas, but Wednesday night, KU was able to get physical and take over what seemed like a very dry and boring game in terms of Big 12 standards.

The Jayhawks came out lethargic but responded to a very upset Bill Self by separating themselves from the Red Raiders by playing tough man-to-man defense and using said defense to create offensive opportunities.

All American Robinson finished with 19 points and 12 rebounds in a game which, unless you were keeping stats, would be shocked TRob would have recording such numbers.

Early foul trouble forced Self to play Kevin Young and rely more on Jeff Withey for production.

Off the bench, Young had seven rebounds and seven points to help the Jayhawks to a big win on the road in conference play, while freshman Naadir Tharpe added in nine points in limited minutes.

For Tech, Javarez Willis led the way with 12 points while no other player scored in double-digits during Wednesday's game.

Texas Tech looked dysfunctional and under-coached throughout the night, recording three technical fouls in the first half. The Red Raiders will certainly improve under Gillespie, but for now, remain among the bottom-feeders of the Big 12.
