Final Mid-State Top 15
Middle Tennessee may not be considered a traditional hot bed for college football talent but with each passing year, the area has attracted the attention of college programs from all over the nation. Nearly 60 prospects from the area have signed with FBS programs over the past three years and several members of the class of 2012 currently hold FBS scholarship offers as well this fall.
In late May, VandySports.com published its annual Mid-State Top 15 prospect ranking for the 2012 class. The site published an updated version in October. Today, the site releases its final ranking of the mid-state's top college prospects.
Based out of the Nashville area, VandySports.com is a strong follower of the middle Tennessee high school scene, with publishers attending several mid-state games each fall. The Mid-State Top 15 rankings are based upon player evaluations and recruiting activity.
Blackman running back I'Tavius Mathers remains as the No.1 overall prospect in the mid-state according to VandySports.com. The dynamic running back capped off his career with nearly 30 touchdowns and well over 2,200 yards in 2011. The four-star prospect is considered to be one of the best running backs to come out of the mid-state in over a decade.
After three prospects made their debut in October, kicking specialist Landon Foster of Independence makes his debut. Another prospect, Smyrna standout and recent Tennessee Tech commitment, Brandon Hathaway, rejoins the ranking.
Pearl-Cohn defensive back Darrius Darden-Box and Gallatin linebacker Maurice Box dropped from the final ranking while prospects such as BGA two-way player Blake Thomson, Hunters Lane lineman Antonio Head, Hendersonville quarterback Hunter Brown, Ensworth defensive backs Rodney Edmiston and Keshonn Carter, Fairview two-way prospect Logan Cavender and Gallatin big man Tre Haynes were also considered for the final ranking.
