Horns set for yet another visitor

Over the course of the recruiting process, Pflugerville Hendrickson athlete Daje Johnson has established himself among the upper echelon of high school football players in the state of Texas.

Johnson has attracted interest from near and far for his play on both sides of the ball and is currently committed to TCU. He is noted as a lockdown corner on defense, and on offense as a receiver and running back with blazing 4.3 speed in the 40-yard dash. He could play either side of the ball and while he does love having the ball in his hand, he is keeping his options open as to what position he plays in college.

"I love both positions," Johnson said. "I guess that's what's easy about picking my position because I would play either position. I just want to find out which position will get me on the field quicker because I want to play right away. That's my goal."

His list of accomplishments reach far and wide, as does his offer list, which includes the likes of TCU, Baylor, Texas A&M, TCU, Cal, Texas Tech and Kansas St.

So it comes as no surprise his recruitment has continued to pick up steam, with Oklahoma and Notre among those to show interest of late. On Wednesday, Texas came by to let him know of its interest.

"Today they came to my school and coach (Darrell) Wyatt he told me he wanted me to take a visit up there and possibly I'd be offered in a couple of days," he said.

"To be honest I was surprised. My coach texted me and told me to come down to the field house. I didn't know what he was talking about and then I saw [Coach Wyatt]. I was surprised. We were talking about setting up the visit and he was telling me they're down to their last couple of offers and they're looking for the best athlete."

Johnson had been hearing from Texas before the end of the season, and even took a few unofficial visits to a few Texas games. However, the talk had slowed recently. That all changed with today's meeting, and now Johnson has an official visit scheduled to Texas for January 27 and the Longhorns are very much in the mix.

"They're high up there on my list," Johnson said of Texas. "It's not really a list. I guess they're right up there interest-wise with TCU. I'll just see how the visit goes and talk about it with my dad and my mom and all that."

Johnson did say Wyatt mentioned making an in-home visit. The Hendrickson standout did not know exactly when that visit would take place over the next few weeks but said a visit was mentioned during Wednesday's talks.

Earlier this fall, Texas indicated it was interested in Johnson on the offensive side of the ball and it appears the Longhorns still want him with the ball in his hands.

"I think it's still offense, somewhere on offense," he said. "I'm not really sure of the exact position, but I guess we'll talk about that on my official visit."

In addition to the talk with the Longhorns, Johnson did talk about visiting Oklahoma but indicated that was not likely anymore. He also talked with Texas A&M about visiting this coming weekend, which also looks to be in doubt at this point.

With signing day coming up just around the corner, Johnson is keeping his list narrow and he confirmed that right now his options basically consists of TCU and Texas, saying "Yeah, basically yeah." At this point he did not know what would happen if Texas did extend an offer his way.
